The pink fabric has faded over time from a bright red to a mellow pink, characteristic of high quality natural madder dyes used in the late 19th Century.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"455\" data-start=\"179\"\u003eThe white and blue back is a handloom cotton, probably from old saris. The blue looks like a faded indigo.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"455\" data-start=\"179\"\u003eIt's possible that the faded red fabric is the famous Turkey Red used for quilts throughout the 19th Century, made in the UK and France and exported globally, including India\/ Bengal. This red dyed cotton was known for its colourfastness and deep red shade, created by a complex natural dyeing process. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"455\" data-start=\"179\"\u003eThe writing in the middle is the two names of the wedding couple written in Bengali: Mohammed (mr) Kasam Ali and Mossamat (miss) Anuaaba Khatun\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"455\" data-start=\"179\"\u003eThese names are from the old traditional North East Naogaon region of Bangladesh, possibly even a village called Nagar (source: several helpful Bengali speakers) \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"455\" data-start=\"179\"\u003eWith all this information it has finally been possible to identify the origin of these quilts with their fine outline stitched embroidery, islamic patterns and distinctive colour. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"455\" data-start=\"179\"\u003eA true collector's piece, this one has been meticulously cleaned and a small stained blue area remains in one corner but it is in remarkable condition for its age.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"1295\" data-start=\"1143\"\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eSIZE: 210cm x 110cm (82\" x 44\")\u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"1295\" data-start=\"1143\"\u003ePerfect to drape over the end of a UK double bed (US full) as shown.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-end=\"1520\" data-start=\"1297\"\u003eAs a true vintage textile made to be used, it shows the charm of its past life.
