The pink fabric has faded over time from a bright red to a mellow pink, characteristic of high quality natural madder dyes used in the late 19th Century.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-start=\"179\" data-end=\"455\"\u003eThe white back is a handloom cotton, probably from an old sari.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-start=\"179\" data-end=\"455\"\u003eIt's possible that the faded red fabric is the famous Turkey Red used for quilts throughout the 19th Century, made in the UK and France and exported globally, including India\/ Bengal. This red dyed cotton was known for its colourfastness and deep red shade, created by a complex natural dyeing process. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-start=\"179\" data-end=\"455\"\u003eThis design has a lotus flower in the middle, traditionally seen on white antique nakshi kanthas, with extraordinarily fine white stitching creating the rest of the pattern. In true Islamic kantha style, one area has a contrast area stitched in green thread.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp data-start=\"179\" data-end=\"455\"\u003eMost likely originating from thetraditional North East Naogaon region of Bangladesh, this is a true collector's piece. It has been meticulously cleaned.
