Vintage Handloom Indigo Cotton from Laos

Beautiful old lengths of hand spun, handwoven indigo cotton from Laos, each with its own shade, texture and patina.

Laos cotton has been grown, spun, naturally dyed and woven for centuries. Traditionally the cloth was made on wooden looms for everyday clothing, bed linens and household textiles. The character of hand spun yarn combined with indigo creates a wonderfully irregular surface, which becomes softer and more beautiful with age.

These vintage lengths are increasingly sought after by textile collectors, interior designers and makers. This indigo cotton is usually exported to Japan for creators of traditional Japanese Boro and Sashiko work. Ours come from the back panels of traditional padded batik bed covers, which are separated by hand in Laos. 

Use them for your own Boro, Sashiko, visible mending, cushions, bags, patchwork, curtains, blinds, lampshades, simple garments and upholstery projects or simply hang a beautiful length on the wall as a art.

Each available piece is listed as an individual variant with its own measurements and photographs. As this is vintage handmade cloth, variations in colour and weave, old repairs, marks and signs of previous use should be expected and part of its beauty.

Priced at approx £60 per square metre, these represent particularly good value for vintage Laos hand spun indigo cloth, which can sell for considerably more elsewhere.
