This large reversible vintage kantha quilt in a delightful and not-so subtle bright yellow embroidery was hand crafted from layers of vintage sari fabric hand stitched together with tiny kantha (running) stitches.

Traditionally made in Bengal, India, this kantha quilt is around 15-50 years old, a beautiful example of a living tradition.

As each vintage kantha quilt is completely one of a kind, once it's sold, it's gone for good!

This one is a super soft light to medium weight with fine hand stitching, rice-grain chain stitches in a diamond pattern and a large size with very few signs of use.

SIZE: 205cm x 140cm (80" x 56")

Perfect to drape over the end of a UK double bed (US full) as shown. This size will also just fit a UK King (US Queen).

Incredibly versatile, our hand picked Indian kantha quilts are perfect to add a touch of unique pattern and tactile authenticity to your bedroom or lounge. Use it as a bed throw blanket, drape it over a sofa, hang as a curtain or on the wall as artwork behind the bed.

Our kantha quilts come freshly and meticulously cleaned in-house with as few marks as possible. But as a true vintage piece, expect imperfections, patched details, marks and worn sections that reveal the layers below.

We do our best to photograph all the details but remember that you are purchasing a unique, vintage textile piece that has been handmade and used in the past.

Handmade in India, 20th Century Vintage

Materials

100% recycled cotton
Kantha quilts have been made for centuries by artisans in rural India. They are handmade from layers of recycled hand printed sarees which are hand stitched together to create a reversible, one of a kind blanket.
Each one is completely unique and they come in different sizes, thicknesses and qualities.
Some are at least a few generations old and show all the signs of being loved in the past, with gives them a unique texture and softness. Others are more recent but in great condition, with fewer signs of use.
We hand select our kantha quilts for their bright colours, versatile sizes and unique patterns, and photograph them in as much detail as possible so that you can see the beautiful features of each one.
We wash them to remove as many marks as possible, and we will sometimes patch over any large holes using offcuts of kantha quilts, using the same technique as the original artisans would have.
